Keep Brazos Beautiful is being recognized by Keep Texas Beautiful as one of its best groups in the state.
Executive Director Amy Reed says KBB is one of only 62 out of 360 affiliates across Texas to receive the Gold Star Award.
Reed says it’s really exciting for her because it’s telling not only of the people that they serve, but also of the members of the organization, and it goes to show what a great team they have.
She says they’ve have more than 3,500 volunteers in the last year, a board of 13 directors, more than 25 interns the last two semesters, 8 summer interns, and a staff of 2 going above and beyond.
Reed says it’s nice to be recognized for the fourth consecutive year for services that include programs to prevent litter, reduce waste, beautify community areas, and educate residents.
She says last year’s notable events included The Crepe Myrtle and Shade Tree Sale, where they planted more than 1,200 trees locally, the Wackey Wicked Weekend in downtown Bryan, and the Annual Texas Trash-Off, which removed more than 600 tons of trash and debris and more than 500 tires.
