KAGC Radio’s Czech Polka Time Marking 900th Show

Bryan Broadcasting’s weekend polka music program is celebrating its 900th show this weekend.

Ronnie Horcica has been the host of Czech Polka Time since its inception.

In case you’re wondering about the pronunciation of Ronnie’s last name, there is the American version…hor-SEE-kuh, and the Czech version…hor-CHEE-suh, which is what he uses on the air.

Either way, Ronnie’s been playing Czech polkas and waltzes on KAGC since March 1998.

His introduction to the music came as a youngster when his family attended polka dances in Bryan.

Thanks to the Internet, his program has listeners around the world.

He describes the program as a ministry to a legion of devoted followers who block out their schedule each week.

He also says there is a new generation of younger performers, including Texas A&M students, whose parents also played in polka bands.

Listen to Czech Polka Time Saturday mornings at 10:05 and Sunday afternoons at 4:05 on 1510 AM and online at kagc1510.com.

While Horcica has hosted this program for more than 17 years, he has been with KAGC for 27 years. And his fulltime job with the city of College Station dates back to 1984, and he was employee of the year in 2009.
