Brazos County Justice of the Peace, Tommy Munoz started placing truant students on the AimTruancy Solutions program in 2009.
The program works with the students and their families through one-on-one mentoring and GPS monitoring. The students are tracked with a hand-held GPS device between the time they wake up and the time they check in for curfew at night.
After curfew, students received coaching from a trained mentor several nights a week. Munoz said this adult interaction helps the students resolve problems they are having at home and school.
Since the start of the program, student attendance has improved by an average of 24%.
