A Bryan man who went to prison twice for breaking into homes will be doing more time for breaking into a Bryan church. 54 year old James Roger Taylor was found guilty this week by a Brazos County district court jury of last October’s burglary and theft at Greater Tabernacle Church…which is located west of Scurry Park. After the verdict, the district attorney’s office announced they and Taylor reached terms on a 12 year sentence. Taylor has been in jail since his arrest shortly after the burglary, after he was seen pushing a wheelchair containing several microphones, speakers, and a computer modem from the church. Prosecutors say Taylor entered the church by breaking a stained glass window. In 1987, Taylor was sentenced to 15 years for a home burglary, then he was sentenced in 1990 to 25 years for another residential break-in.

The Brazos County district attorney’s office has announced a plea agreement with a College Station man covering crimes that took place in January, four years ago, and five years ago. Zachary Savant admitted to attempting to pass a forged check at a Bryan bank on his 27th birthday, then fighting a policeman who was trying to arrest him. Savant was sentenced to 11 years, a punishment that also includes ten years for writing another forged check in 2011 and using a credit card belonging to an elderly victim in 2012. According to online court records, Savant had ten prior convictions for property crimes dating back eight years, including a three year prison term for a residential burglary in 2009.
