FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ A Texas juror who contacted the defendant in a civil case through Facebook has been sentenced to community service for contempt of court.
Jonathan Hudson was dismissed from a Tarrant County jury last month after the defendant’s lawyer told the judge that the juror tried to “friend” his client.
Hudson, 22, pleaded guilty to four counts of contempt of court last week and was sentenced to two days community service. The case concerned a 2008 car accident. Hudson’s attorney told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram his client felt bad about what happened.
Texas recently added specific language to jury instructions that bans jurors from discussing cases on social networking sites and Hudson along with the other jurors had been warned.
