Jon Meacham is an award-winning author of several presidential biographies and received the Pulitzer Prize for his 2008 biography of Andrew Jackson, American Lion.
His latest biography features the nation’s 41st president, George H.W. Bush.
Meacham is coming to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M on Monday, November 9th to launch, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush.
“The documents there, the treasure trove of history that’s in College Station informed this book in essential ways,” said Meacham.
Meacham said he had extraordinary access to the Bush family and President and Mrs. Bush’s personal diaries, which he has not had with previous subjects.
“I think, I hope I created a fuller, more intimate portrait,” said Meacham.
Meacham also spoke to the Bush’s critical assessments of key members of his son’s administration.
“The former president had some pretty strong views about Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney, and I urge everybody to read all the way to the end,” he said.
Meacham’s presentation starts at 6 p.m. on Monday at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center. His biography launches nationwide on Tuesday.
