Isolated Flu Outbreak Among Texas A&M Students

An isolated flu outbreak was reported to the Brazos County Health Department involving a group of students associated with the same sorority at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Seth Sullivan said approximately 37 students were involved, but more are likely to be reported.

“We won’t know for the next couple of weeks based on the reports that we get and the surveillance that we do to see whether or not this is just an isolate outbreak or if this is something that will be more widespread through the community,” said Dr. Sullivan.

He said close proximity of people increases the efficiency of the virus to transmit.

Health officials encourage everyone 6 months of age and older to get a flu shot. Flu shots are available at local pharmacies and at the Beutel Health Center at Texas A&M University.
