Gunfire last weekend at the Texas World Speedway…where a crowd of more than 7,000 gathered for a trailride and campout…remains under investigation.
Brazos County sheriff Chris Kirk says an estimated 50 law enforcement officers from at last four agencies responded to calls from four deputy constables who were working security.
Kirk says two men, neither from Brazos County, were involved in an altercation where one was hit by gunfire. The man who was shot spent two nights in the hospital.
Kirk says the person accused of the gunfire has been identified.
And the sheriff said the organizers of the trailride did not have a mass gathering permit that was required by the state and the county.
In addition to gaining control of the scene where the gunfire took place, the sheriff says officers handled traffic control out of the speedway and they provided security at the hospital where the shooting victim was taken.
