International Passengers Stranded in Houston

HOUSTON (AP) _ Hundreds of Europeans stranded in Houston because of the volcano erupting in Iceland are camping at the airport and packing hotels, hoping to at least fly to the continent by the end of the week.

Some passengers say they have been sleeping in the underground train terminal in George Bush Intercontinental Airport because they can no longer afford hotels. Others are concerned they will run out of medicine. Some have bought T-shirts emblazoned with the notorious quote “Houston We Have A Problem” to try to get attention from the airlines.

But the news on Monday was not much better.

Some may make it to Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Most will not get on a flight. And even if they do get a flight, they say won’t be able to find a car to rent in Europe or guarantee a train seat to get the whole way home.
