Injured Bryan Firemen Will Be Escorted Home on Friday

Bryan city officials have confirmed that two firemen critically burned in the Knights of Columbus Hall fire will return home on Friday.

Fire Chief Randy McGregor says Ricky Mantey and Mitch Moran will come into town riding the fire engine they were in when they responded to the February 15th fire.

McGregor anticipates they will arrive in Bryan around 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.

With an escort from the Bryan Police department, they will exit the freeway in College Station at Texas Avenue and proceed north to downtown Bryan.

City spokeswoman Jenna Kujawski says ladder trucks will be set up in an overhead arch with flags on Texas near Rosemary.

The fire and police vehicles will make a left turn from Texas to William Joel Bryan, then finish at fire station Number One.

McGregor says he will contact city staff when the fire engine is about two hours from arrival at the city limits. The City’s communications staff will post a more accurate arrival time on the City’s webpage, Facebook and Twitter feeds.

City officials invite the public to line the sidewalks along Texas Avenue to welcome Mantey and Moran home and to show their appreciation for their bravery and sacrifice.

While Mantey and Moran are returning home, both will continue outpatient treatment in Galveston.

Jenna Kujawski visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
