College Station City Council Awards Contract For New Sidewalks On The Street Behind City Hall
New sidewalks are coming to the street behind College Station city hall. That’s after the city council at its December meeting awarded a $292,000 dollar construction contract for sidewalks along Foster Avenue between George Bush and Gilchrist and between Francis and Walton. The only discussion before the unanimous vote, was learning the width of the sidewalk will be the same as the sidewalk directly behind city hall. Construction is supposed to take three to four months. Funding comes from the federal community development block grant program. Brazos County Commissioner’s Update On Repairs At A College Station Apartment Complex And Discussing Winter Weather Conditions
Brazos County commissioner Wanda Watson is told repairs to natural gas lines at College Station’s Southgate Village apartments that began before last Thanksgiving have been completed…but residents continue to face obstacles. At the end of Tuesday’s commission meting (January 7), Watson “implored” those who could to donate coats and blankets to help those at Southgate Village and elsewhere who are dealing with subfreezing temperatures. Watson also said she was also working with officials to determine if warming centers will be available later this week when the forecast calls for another round of winter weather Tuesday night, United Way of the Brazos Valley announced a warming center will be in operation Wednesday and Thursday (January 8 and 9) from 5 p.m. until 9 a.m. at Bryan’s First United Methodist Church, located at 506 East 28th Street.
