DPS Drivers Licenses Offices Closed Early On Monday

Texas department of public safety (DPS) drivers license offices statewide closed early on Monday (December 30). DPS social media said it was due an undisclosed outage. The announcement also included a reminder that DPS drivers licenses offices are closed New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

New District Judge Appointed For A Portion Of The Brazos Valley

New Year’s Day means a new district judge serving Leon, Madison, and Walker counties. The governor has appointed Tracy Sorensen of Huntsville in the 278th district. The governor’s news release says she was Walker County’s county court at law judge, she was in private practice and she is active in legal organizations based in Walker and Montgomery counties. News release from the governor’s office: Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Tracy Sorensen as Judge of the 278th Judicial District Court in Leon, Madison, and Walker Counties, effective January 1, 2025, for a term set to expire on December 31, 2026, or until her successor shall be duly elected and qualified. Tracy Sorensen of Huntsville is the County Court at Law Judge for Walker County. Previously, she was owner of The Law Office of Tracy M. Sorensen. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas (SBOT), SBOT Judicial Section, Texas Center for the Judiciary Board of Directors, Texas Association of County Court at Law Judges, Walker County Bar Association, Second Administrative Judicial Region Budget Board, and the Walker County Bail Bond Board, chair of the Walker County Juvenile Board, and team lead of the Health and Human Services Commission Jail In-Reach Learning Collaborative Cohort 4. She is a former member of the State Bar College, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, Texas Young Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, SBOT Family Law Section, SBOT Criminal Law Section, SBOT Juvenile Law Section, and the National Association of Counsel for Children. Additionally, she held various leadership positions for the Walker County Bar Association. Sorensen received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University and a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.

Bryan Police DWI Arrest With Four Prior Convictions And Indicted For Another DWI

A Bryan man convicted of drunk driving four times and is awaiting trial from a DWI arrest in April of 2023 returns to jail on another DWI charge. The Bryan police arrest report says an officer saw a SUV run two stop signs and drove about four blocks before stopping. 54 year old Anthony Bowers Jr. was arrested after failing field sobriety tests for DWI, fleeing, and failing to stop at a stop sign. Bowers was released from jail after posting bonds totaling $10,215 dollars. The BPD arrest report says Bowers was convicted of DWI three times in 2014 and once in 2018. In addition to Bowers DWI indictment from 2023, he is also awaiting trial from an arrest in July 2024 on charges of driving with an invalid license and resisting arrest.
