AUSTIN (AP) _ Texas First Lady Anita Perry on Wednesday joined the Independent Bankers Association to launch a fund-raising drive to restore the burned Governor’s Mansion.
So far no arrests in last June’s fire that severely damaged the residence.
Gov. Rick Perry and his wife at the time were not living at the 1856 mansion because it was undergoing renovation.
Association president Christopher Williston says the group plans to blanket the state in the fund-raising drive. The association represents more than 2,000 banks and full-service branches in 700 communities throughout Texas.
The banks will act as collection points for Texans wishing to donate.
Anita Perry formed the Texas Governor’s Mansion Restoration Fund after the historic home was damaged. Nobody was hurt in the fire.
