The College Station and Bryan fire departments have one less obstacle to enter business buildings along the joint city limits.
Bryan deputy fire marshal William Bouse says both departments were recently given keys to unlock buildings in the other city.
Bouse says there are occasions where the other city can respond faster to an alarm of a fire or a sprinkler system issue.
This prevents firefighters having to force their way into a structure, which causes property damage.
Bouse says firefighters are in communication with building owners, because they receive calls from the alarm company after they notify fire departments.
