Human Remains Could Be Missing Woman

LYFORD, Texas (AP) _ South Texas authorities have sent human remains to be tested to determine whether they could be those of a 68-year-old Mission woman whose husband and stepson have been charged in her death.

Josefina Lugo has been missing since Aug. 23. She had filed for divorce in July.

Three days after her disappearance, Willacy County officials found an arm in a canal near Raymondville. A lab in Arizona said that DNA from the arm matched blood found in Lugo’s condominium.

Willacy County Sheriff Larry Spence said private landowners found a human skull and other bones on a piece of their land Saturday afternoon.

The remains have been sent to Austin to see if there is a match with the arm.

Lugo’s husband, Pedro Lugo, and stepson, Javier Lugo, were indicted on murder charges in September in connection with her disappearance.
