Speeding Drunk Driver Kills Houston Toll Road Worker

HOUSTON (AP) _ A longtime Houston toll road worker has died after a woman accused of drunken driving slammed her speeding car into a concrete barrier near a toll booth, sending the vehicle airborne before it struck the victim standing nearby.

Precinct 4 Assistant Chief Deputy Constable Mark Herman says 48-year-old Sheila Lindsey died instantly when she was thrown 75 yards by the impact around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Herman said 38-year-old Julie Little of Magnolia was arrested on an intoxication manslaughter charge. He did not know if she had an attorney. He said Little’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and three narcotics were found in her system.

Little suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from a Houston hospital.
