A Houston man is going to prison for a domestic violence aggravated assault that happened in College Station in 2014.
The Brazos County district attorney’s office says a plea agreement was reached with 37 year old Anthony Lister to serve eight years on the Brazos County conviction as the result of another domestic violence conviction that took place in Houston.
The victim in the College Station attack, who continues to suffer from injuries almost ten years later, submitted what prosecutors said was “a powerful victim impact statement in court to Lister” at his recent sentencing hearing.
Court records show Lister pleaded guilty in February 2015 to the College Station attack that took place in October 2014. At that time, he was placed on a suspended ten year prison sentence.
A news release from the Brazos County DA’s office said Lister violated probation in January 2023 when he assaulted, strangled, and threatened to shoot another domestic violence victim after he became upset with the result of a football game.
News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office:
Anthony Lister has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for violating his felony probation for a domestic violence aggravated assault.
While still on probation in January 2023, Lister assaulted, strangled, and threatened to shoot another domestic violence victim. The January 2023 offense, occurred when Lister became upset at the result of a football game. The victim ran out of their home with their child and contacted Houston Police.
The Houston domestic violence assault was prosecuted by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Lister pled guilty in Harris County and was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
Because the Houston offense occurred while Lister was still on probation in Brazos County, a motion to revoke his probation was filed. The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office prosecuted the motion to revoke Lister’s probation.
Lister faced a potential maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for violating his Brazos County probation. Instead of proceeding to a contested hearing, Lister accepted an agreed sentence of 8 years in prison.
The victim of the Brazos County domestic violence assault, who suffered serious injury which continues to affect her today, delivered a powerful victim impact statement in court to Lister at the conclusion of his sentencing. She was also joined and supported in the courtroom by many friends, co-workers, and family members as she delivered her remarks.
The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank all members of the College Station Police Department who assisted in the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of Lister as well as all members of the police department who have provided support to the victim in the years since the offense.
Statement from assistant Brazos County district attorney Kevin Capps: “Anthony Lister has repeatedly demonstrated that he will inflict violence on those he claims to love. Hopefully, this prison sentence will finally impact his behavior, and stop future violence before it starts.”
