Houston Hand Doctor Charged with Beating Wife

HOUSTON (AP) _ A former hand surgeon in Houston whose TV commercials tout family values has been charged with beating his fourth wife, eight years after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his third wife.

Court records show 53-year-old Michael Glyn Brown twisted his wife’s arm “as if he meant to break” it earlier this month. Brown appeared in court Tuesday on third-degree felony aggravated assault charges.

If convicted he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. That’s a higher penalty because of the previous conviction.

He founded the Brown Hand Center, which specializes in carpal tunnel surgery, and has offices in Houston, Dallas, Austin, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

His medical license was permanently revoked in 2006 based on allegations he tested positive for cocaine.

Brown’s attorney says the latest charges are a “private matter” and asked for the couple’s privacy.
