Houston Churches Provide Black Friday Alternative

HOUSTON (AP) _ Some Houston and Galveston area churches and Christian organizations say their Bless Friday, an alternative to Black Friday, is gaining popularity.

Bless Friday founder Chuck Fox says the campaign — in its second year — is intended to shift the focus from shopping to “the real reason for Christmas, remembering and honoring Christ.”

Participants are encouraged to help others, take part in volunteer programs and spread the word about Bless Friday.
