Update 8/4:

Bryan city officials say at the developer’s request, the public hearing on the rezoning request at the Phillips Event Center has been postponed until at least September 4th.

Original story:

The new owner of what used to be called Briarcrest Country Club wants to add housing on the property.

The Bryan planning and zoning commission will hold a public hearing next week to consider a rezoning request to multi-family.

Wallace Phillips of the Phillips Event Center has not determined how many units or if there will be additional entrances and exits.

Phillips says pending city approval, he hopes to secure a hotel during the second quarter of next year, then add condos or brownstones in 2016.

The planning and zoning commission meeting is August 7th at 6 p.m. in city council chambers.

Phillips says it’s part of the rebranding from what used to be a private club to a public event center.

That includes 12 projects that are ongoing, shooting for a grand opening the last weekend of August.

Inside the clubhouse there is a restaurant and bar downstairs that are open to the public; and the upstairs is getting a complete makeover.

Phillips says there is a new fleet of golf carts, dying trees have been removed, improvements have been made to the course irrigation system, and golf simulators are being installed.
