Telephone solicitations purporting to represent a local charity are a scam.
Hospice Brazos Valley officials said Friday a telemarketing firm claiming to represent the non-profit agency was making unsolicited phone calls to raise money for a cancer clinic. The problem is: Hospice Brazos Valley doesn’t have a cancer clinic.

The following is the full statement released Friday by Hospice Brazos Valley:
It has come to the attention of the President & CEO of Hospice Brazos Valley that a telemarketing firm unknown to Hospice Brazos Valley is soliciting for donations for a cancer clinic.
“We want the community to know that we have not sanctioned any person or telemarketing agency to act on behalf of Hospice Brazos Valley to solicit for donations, “ said Craig Borchardt, President. “While Hospice Brazos Valley is grateful and appreciative of the support we receive from the community, this activity is a violation of our standards of fundraising.”
Our community fundraising activities include our full Trademarked name, the purpose of the fund raising event and community access to our office for additional information. Anyone receiving a call from a solicitor should ask for the name of the telemarketing firm and a telephone number. Then, report the call to the local Better Business Bureau at 260-2222 or to Hospice Brazos Valley directly at 979-821-2266.
