COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M equestrian incoming freshman Brogan Horton will start her career with the Aggies this fall after a successful summer in the arena.
Horton placed third among a very competitive 14-18 Western Horsemanship Class at the 2013 American Junior Paint Horse Association (AJPHA) World Show in July in Fort Worth. The Larkspur, Colo., native rode against 57 exhibitors through two preliminary cuts on her way to the field-of-18 finals. The freshman competed on her horse Zippos Paycheck, also known as Sherlock, for the final time after 12 years.
“I went back to finals sitting second overall,” Horton said. “I had the best and most gratifying ride I have ever had on my horse. I have never been more proud of us as a team. I had also never realized my true potential as a quality horsemanship rider. It was wonderful to finally reach this pinnacle of my youth showing career as my last ride on my horse.”
Horton will join assistant coach Beth Bass’ horsemanship squad for the 2013-14 season as the Aggies embark on their second season in the Southeastern Conference.
