Hero Pilot to Address Hometown Graduates

DENISON, Texas (AP) _ The Denison native and US Airways pilot who safely landed his plane in the Hudson River will speak at his alma mater’s graduation ceremony.

Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger is expected to deliver the commencement address at Denison High School on June 6.

Sullenberger had only two minutes to land the plane in the Hudson after it was struck by geese and lost power after taking off from LaGuardia Airport on Jan. 15. More than 100 people were aboard and all survived the incident.

Denison schools spokeswoman Sherry Christie says educators and officials are excited about what Sullenberger can tell students about that day.

Sullenberger lives in the San Francisco Bay area community of Danville. But he grew up in Denison, a city 75 miles north of Dallas.
