Heisman, SEC, College Football Hall of Fame & Other A&M Football Awards

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel is one of the three finalists for the Heisman Trophy. The award will be handed out on Saturday night in New York. Manziel is also the unanimous choice for Associated Press Southeastern Conference offensive player and Freshman of the year. The redshirt freshman passed for 3,419 yards and 24 touchdowns, rushed for 1,181 yards and 19 TDs, and guided  A&M to a 10-2 mark in its first SEC season, including an upset of Alabama. Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones was named as defensive player of the year. 

Kevin Sumlin is coach of the year, beating out Florida’s Will Muschamp. Sumlin is also a finalist for the Eddie Robinson coach of the year voted on by the American Football Wriers Asociation.

Coach R.C. Slocum is in New York to be inducted in to the College Football Hall of Fame tonight. He’ll go in with Jimmy Johnson who coached at OSU and Miami.
