A Hearne man is off to prison for setting a fire to a mobile home near Bryan occupied by a former best friend who was in a relationship with his ex-wife.
43 year old Robert Goethe had pleaded guilty and was convicted of arson of a habitation.
Goethe had asked for probation, but District Judge Steve Smith issued a sentence of eight years in prison.
The March 2011 fire was in the High Country subdivision off of FM 2223 northeast of Bryan.
According to the arrest report, a witness told sheriff’s investigators Goethe made four attempts to ignite the exterior of the mobile home outside the bedroom shared by Goethe’s ex-wife and her boyfriend.
Also in the home were the Goethe’s three children and a relative of the boyfriend.
No one was injured, and the owner extinguished the fire with a garden hose.
Goethe remains in jail in lieu of a $10,000 appeal bond, which the conditions have not been set.
