Longtime Texas A&M track and field head coach Pat Henry announces his retirement.
An A&M news release describes Henry as “the most decorated head coach in NCAA track and field history”.
Henry finishes 22 seasons at A&M as part of a 54 year coaching career.
While the news release not say who will be in charge while choosing Henry’s successor, Henry said at a news conference following the retirement announcement that he is excited to have been asked to provide input about selecting the next head coach. Henry also said very few candidates would say no about coming to A&M. Henry also said very few should be asked about the position. And Henry said the next head coach should keep all of his assistants because “they’re winners, they know what it takes to win, they’ve already won.”
