Health Cost Discussion at Texas A&M

Senator John Cornyn hosted a discussion regarding the rising cost of health care at the Bush Library on the Texas A&M campus Tuesday.

Dr. Thomas Saving, Director of the Private Enterprise Research Center at Texas A&M University and former Trustee of the national Medicare Trust Fund, spoke at the event.

Saving says the problems associated with the cost of health care will not come under control under consumers take note of what they are paying.

Saving says the problem will become more urgent in 2011 when the first baby boomers start to qualify for Medicare benefits.

Currently about 16 percent of federal tax revenue is spent on Medicare and Medicaid.
