A head on crash in west Bryan late Sunday afternoon killed both drivers.
Bryan police reported this was on FM 2818/Harvey Mitchell Parkway between Highway 21 and Sandy Point Road.
A southbound truck driven by 21 year old German Chavez-Infante was attempting to pass a third vehicle when the truck struck a northbound car driven by 41 year old Quentin Darnell Shepard of Hearne.
The vehicle being passed was not struck.
A Bryan man is in and out of the Brazos County jail for the fourth time in less than two years on warrants for not paying fines in multiple Bryan municipal court cases. Online jail records shows 24 year old Monterrius Harrison, who was booked Tuesday (August 27) on 12 warrants where he owes more than $6,300 dollars, was released the next day to be placed on community supervision. Five of Harrison’s warrants were for not having a valid drivers license, three were for not having vehicle insurance, and two was for driving trucks with children riding in an open bed. A College Station woman spent time in the Brazos County jail this week after she was arrested on six warrants for failing to quarantine an animal. A Bryan police spokesman says this involves an animal biting someone back in January. The six warrants from Bryan municipal court are for six days that the animal was not quarantined. 42 year old Amanda Miskell, who was arrested on Wednesday (August 28), was released from jail the next day after posting bonds totaling $3,360 dollars.
The city of College Station announced late Friday afternoon (August 30) the reopening of Luther Street near Texas A&M’s west campus. Luther Street between Penberthy and Marion Pugh had been closed since January as part of a $3.5 million dollar project. In addition to the replacing the street, the city’s contractor has completed installation of a new water line and new drainage. Yet to be completed, is the installation of sidewalks, signage, and striping. A city news release thanked the contractor for completing the street three months ahead of schedule, to assist with moving traffic during Texas A&M home football weekends and accommodate bus routes.
The Bryan city council unanimously agrees to continue paying for personnel that council members believe is the responsibility of the Bryan ISD school district. During the council’s August regular meeting, there were unanimous votes to pay $198,881 dollars for school crossing guards and one-fourth of the cost of school resource officers, which is $372,228. Bryan ISD pays the city $1,026,346 for school resource officers at middle schools, high schools, M.C. Harris alternative school, and the district’s disciplinary alternative education campus. Deputy city manager Hugh Walker said negotiations continues with Bryan ISD administrators for the school district to pay more of the cost. Walker told councilmembers that an obstacle is state lawmakers not increasing base funding for public school districts since 2019. Mayor Bobby Gutierrez and councilman James Edge said the expense is paid by Bryan taxpayers, whether it comes from the city and/or the school district. When Bryan ISD board members approved the school resource officer agreement July 15th, there were no comments from board members about that or the city paying for crossing guards.
