A fiery crash northeast of San Marcos took the life of a Bryan woman.
DPS troopers say the Tuesday afternoon wreck on Highway 21 killed 72 year old Dawn Burns Percival.
Officers were told Percival’s southbound car left the roadway then overcorrected into the oncoming lane where it struck a semi transporting new vehicles.
Upon impact, Percival’s car burst into flames. The trucker, from Wylie, was treated for cuts and bruises.
The highway was closed eight hours for the investigation.
Bryan police arrest an intermediate school student on a charge of threatening to bring a gun to school. A joint news release from BPD and Bryan ISD says Thursday morning’s (October 10) incident at Rayburn intermediate did not involve a credible threat to the school, students, or employees. The unidentified student was removed from campus and taken to the Brazos County juvenile detention center on a misdemeanor charge. Joint news release from Bryan police and Bryan ISD: On October 10th, 2024, at approximately 10:15 a.m., BISD administration, along with School Resource Officers from the Bryan Police Department responded to a report of a verbal threat made by a student in regards to bringing a firearm to school. This incident took place at Sam Rayburn Intermediate School. During the investigation, it was determined there was no credible threat to the school, students or staff. The juvenile student that made the threat was removed from campus and placed under arrest and transported to the Brazos County Juvenile Detention Center and booked in for Texas Education Code 37.125 Exhibition, Use, or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearms. Due to the arrest involving a juvenile, no further information will be released. Texas Education Code – EDUC 37.125. Exhibition, Use, or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearms (a) A person commits an offense if, in a manner intended to cause alarm or personal injury to another person or to damage school property, the person intentionally: (3) threatens to exhibit or use a firearm in or on property described by Subdivision (1)(A) or on a bus described by Subdivision (1)(B). (c) An offense under Subsection (a)(3) is a Class A misdemeanor. As you know, Bryan ISD takes every rumor or report of this type very seriously and works closely with local law enforcement to investigate and take appropriate action, up to and including arrest. Brazos County has the fourth largest number of 4-H members in Texas. County commissioners learned that information during Tuesday’s meeting (October 8) as part of the annual recognition of national 4-H week. Brazos County 4-H agent Matt Pfiefer said Brazos County has 724 4-H members. Nine members of the Brazos County 4-H council introduced themselves to commissioners after a proclamation was presented to the group. Two other members are at the state fair this week representing the state 4-H council. A north Bryan manufacturer is annexed into the city. The Bryan city council approved the annexation of Axis Pipe and Tube at its October regular meeting. The annexation was part an economic development agreement. City manager Kean Register, the city’s economic development specialist Todd McDaniel, and mayor Bobby Gutierrez all shared how Axis exceeded minimum requirements for adding property valuation, jobs, and average employee salary.
