Press Release from Brazos County Health Department

BRAZOS COUNTY – As part of additional, routine testing of the H1N1 vaccine by Sanofi Pasteur, results showed that some of the single-dose pediatric vaccine contained a lower than required potency level of antigen. Therefore, Sanofi Pasteur is conducting a non-safety related voluntary recall of these affected lots of vaccine. The recalled vaccines are specifically for children that are 6-35 months old.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) feels that the small decrease in antigen content is unlikely to result in a clinically significant reduction in immune response among persons who have received the vaccine. For this reason, there is no need to revaccinate persons who have received vaccine from these lots.

The Brazos County Health Department has administered around 210 doses of vaccine from the recalled vaccine lots. Because the CDC recommends two doses of the H1N1 vaccine for anyone age 6 months to 10 years of age, the health department wants to reiterate the importance of getting the second vaccination for this age group in order to build immune response. Vaccine is currently available during our regular immunization hours.
