Gusty Winds Blow Through The Brazos Valley

Wind gusts of more than 50 miles per hour blew through Bryan/College Station Monday afternoon.

College Station firefighters report a small aircraft parked at Easterwood Airport overturned. No one was injured and no fuel leaked from the plane.

The 4 p.m. update from the weather service at Easterwood Airport reported sustained winds at 37 miles per hour with a peak gust of 52.

The weather service reporting station at Coulter Field reported a 4 p.m. sustained wind of 18 mph with a peak gust of 40.

BTU and College Station Utilities responded to a total of seven power outages according to online outage maps.

BTU tweeted one of the outages, affecting 112 customers near Turkey Creek Road and Finfeather, was due to high winds breaking power poles.

The storm cell generating the gusty winds also led to a severe thunderstorm warning in portions of Robertson County until 5 p.m. Wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and penny sized hail was possible in Hearne, Calvert, and Hammond.

The weather service reporting station at the Hearne airport measured a peak wind gust of 59 miles per hour. The storm dropped the temperature at the Hearne airport from 98 to 73 degrees.

Entergy’s outage website showed outages from south and west of Hearne, through Franklin to New Baden, and from Calvert through Bremond and Kosse.
