A group of College Station High School parents and students continues to press the school board to add eighth graders to those who will be grandfathered when high school boundary changes begin in the 2019-2020 school year.
The Facebook page “Fate for 58” refers to the 58 eighth graders from CSHS who were rezoned to Consolidated.
Quoting a pinned post: “CSISD’s school board recently did a high school boundary adjustment. These 8th grade students had already tried out for band, cheer leading, etc at their current schools as well as had a field trip to their High Schools and registered for 2018-2019 classes. Many of these students have already ordered and paid for uniforms, and taken part in group pictures. Between both of our high schools we have around 4000 students total. To grandfather all 8th graders would have only been a difference of 58 8th graders net , and made little to no difference in the big picture of our high schools populations. These students have now had their lives turned upside down, and we want our school board to know they are just not a number. They are real students, whose lives matter. Please Grandfather our 8th Graders. Please email our school board and superintendent and request that they have a public forum on grandfathering these 8th graders.”
Since last week’s board vote, CSISD spokesman Chuck Glenewinkel says the superintendent and both high school principals have been fielding phone calls and e-mails from those with comments and questions about the board’s vote on grandfathering.
Glenewinkel says the high school principals have sent an e-mail to the affected eighth grade students, and administrators will be calling the families to invite them to spend some time at their new high school on May 11th.
Additionally, Glenewinkel says open houses have also been scheduled for the eighth graders and their families he evening of May 14th.
More information about the grandfathering is on the district’s website.
