Groundbreaking Friday Of Texas A&M’s Ag and Life Sciences Complex Final Building

It’s been ten years since plans began on Texas A&M’s west campus for the $76 million dollar Agricultural and Life Sciences complex.

Construction of the first building began in 2008, and groundbreaking takes place Friday on the fourth and final building.

The 80,000 square foot Wildlife, Fisheries, and Ecological Sciences building will house 150 people working in the wildlife, fisheries sciences, and portions of the ecosystem science and management departments.

The building’s design includes capturing rainwater and sending it to an existing two-story cistern.

Construction is expected to be completed in June 2017.

Friday’s program starts at 2 p.m. at the complex, located on John Kimbrough Boulevard. Parking is available next to Reed Arena.

Details from Texas A&M:

What: Groundbreaking celebration for the Wildlife, Fisheries and Ecological Sciences Building at Texas A&M University. This is the fourth and final building in the Agriculture and Life Sciences Complex, which is reminiscent of the original main campus of Texas A&M where agriculture formed the nucleus of structures around the East Gate.

When: 2 p.m., Nov. 13.

Where: 556 John Kimbrough Boulevard, College Station. Free parking is available in Lot 100, Areas A, B and C next to Reed Arena.

Who: Speakers include Chancellor John Sharp; Dr. Mark Hussey, vice chancellor and dean of agriculture and life sciences; President Michael K. Young.

Why: The 80,000 square-foot Wildlife, Fisheries and Ecological Sciences Building will house the department of wildlife and fisheries sciences and portions of the ecosystem science and management department. It will provide office space for about 150 people, bringing the total to 600 faculty, staff and researchers in the complex. Like its companion buildings, the new building will be built to U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver standard and include rainwater capture linking it to the existing two-story cistern canopy. Construction is expected to be completed in June 2017.

Additionally, it will be almost identical in footprint, exterior, and orientation to the AGSV building. It will have 5 floors. The first 3 floors will have offices, conference rooms, and dry work areas, adn the top 2 floors will have teaching and reasearch wet labs. The building will be located just north of the AgriLife Center (and just east of the existing north-south sidewalk).
