Green Dye, Not Anti-Freeze, Entered Bryan’s Burton Creek

Green water spotted in Burton Creek south of SFA middle school in Bryan on Monday was not anti-freeze as reported to the fire department.

Public works director Jayson Barfknecht says it was non-toxic green dye that was used after unclogging a city sewer main north of the school.

The Bryan fire department was joined by the College Station fire department’s hazardous materials unit…which confirmed the green water was from the dye.

Dr. Barfknecht says city crews were scheduled on Tuesday to track down the source of a sewer line leak that caused the green dye to find its way to the creek.

Barfknecht says it’s been at least 15 years since there was an incident of this nature in Bryan.
