AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A lawyer for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says a grand jury has stopped investigating the state’s top prosecutor over a land deal in his hometown of McKinney.
Attorney Philip Hilder said Wednesday that special prosecutors told him no action will be taken against Paxton, who has faced two grand jury investigations since becoming attorney general. Last year, a separate grand jury indicted the Republican on two counts of securities fraud.
A phone message to special prosecutors wasn’t immediately returned.
The latest investigation surrounded the sale of land in suburban Dallas that became the site of a Collin County government office. Paxton was part of the company that made the deal.
Hilder said the outcome confirms the investigation was meritless.
Paxton has pleaded not guilty to the securities fraud charges.
