California Dreamin’?
Governor Rick Perry has made persuading top employers to move to Texas a centerpiece of his administration.
California has been a prime target, with what Perry calls the Golden State’s high-tax, over-regulated ways.
But a New York Times Magazine story Tuesday said Perry told the reporter “he loves California” and “might even move” there in January, when his term ends.
Perry’s office said the governor was asked, if he could live anywhere in the U.S. other than Texas, where would it be.
According to a partial transcript provided by Perry’s office, he said: “California if I could afford it. Why wouldn’t you want to live out here? Seriously?’”
Davis on Education, Economy
In her campaign for governor, Wendy Davis is spelling out what she calls a vision for Texas economy.
She’s calling for Pre-K for all Texas kids. She also wants to reduce the amount of standardized testing. In doing so she criticizes opponent Greg Abbott.
“It doesn’t take much looking to see that legislators like Abbott have turned Texas into a standardized testing factory, that has given precious tax dollars to testing companies rather than to Texas classrooms,” Davis said.
Davis’ plan also calls for more school spending, hiking the state’s minimum wage and a crackdown on payday lenders.
“Abbott para Gobernador”
Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott is out with his first T-V spot ahead of the November election.
Aired on Univision during Tuesday’s World Cup match between Mexico and Brazil, the commercial features his mother- and sister-in-law speaking about Abbot’s values.
