Earlier this week, Governor Abbott extended the disaster proclamation for victims of Hurricane Harvey, which took place more than two years ago. That proclamation includes Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Madison, Leon, Milam, Washington, and 53 other counties.
As local burn bans are going away, there continues to be lasting affects of this year’s drought. The small business administration (SBA) has announced economic injury disaster loans are available for much of the state…including Brazos and six other counties in the Brazos Valley (Grimes, Burleson, Milam, Robertson, Leon, and Washington) and a total of 77 counties in Texas. Small nonfarm businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size may qualify for $2 million dollars to help meet financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred. These SBA loans are also available in Grimes, Burleson, Milam, Robertson, Leon, and Washington counties. The SBA says farmers, ranchers, and others primarily involved in agricultural enterprises have to contact their local Farm Service Agency office.
