SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) _ New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson says a meeting of U.S. and Mexican border governors will be held Sept. 19-20.
Richardson said earlier this month New Mexico would host the meeting, which had been canceled in Arizona because of a dispute over its new immigration enforcement law.
He announced the dates Wednesday and said he and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will co-host the meeting in Santa Fe. The governors of Arizona and Texas have said they will not attend.
Richardson said the meeting will focus on border security, economic development and energy.
The governor of Arizona called off the meeting in Phoenix after Mexican governors planned to boycott it over the state’s immigration law. A judge struck down the most controversial provisions Wednesday.
