Shortly after the College Station City Council cast a vote to eliminate red light cameras the lawyer representing the two local men who filed suit to keep the devices in place called the newsroom.
Click to hear WTAW’s Chris Clift talk with Roger Gordon:
Gordon says although this move by Council will end the camera program, their court case will continue because he feels there is a bigger issue at play here.
The civil suit filed in the 85th District Court contends the election was illegal, and Gordon says they do not want to leave the door open for any citizen to change any law they don’t like in the future.
Gordon says he is somewhat concerned by comments by elected officials regarding the City Charter, but he respects the Council vote.
The lawsuit filed by the two College Station residents contesting the election will be back in court Friday at 1 p.m.
Gordon also told us that the City of College Station has now retained outside legal counsel for this case.
When asked about the new outside attorney we received the following response from COCS Communications Director Jay Socol:
“I did receive confirmation that City Attorney Harvey Cargill hired outside counsel on Nov. 11 to defend the City of College Station and the 52% of those voting in the Nov. 3 election.
