Governor Greg Abbott announced Friday that $8,367,000 in Funds for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 35 organizations in the Central Texas region as part of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour. Administered by TVC, the funding will provide services to an estimated more than 4,790 local veterans. $56,000 of that had been awarded to “Housing for Texas Heroes” in the Brazos Valley. “Our veterans represent the strength and resilience of our great land, and every veteran deserves the opportunity to build a fulfilling life after service,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas will always support the brave men and women who answered the call to serve our state and nation.” “We’re incredibly thankful for the organizations across Central Texas that show up every day to support Texas veterans and their families,” said TVC Deputy Executive Director and Army veteran Shawn Deabay. “These grants help strengthen that work. These grants are anticipated to provide direct services to more than 125,600 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses across Texas. Since 2009 through the current 2026-2027 grant cycle, over $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 FVA grants. The grants support a wide range of services from emergency financial assistance to transportation, legal services to family support services, and home modification to rental and mortgage assistance. A woman crashed her pickup into a parked fire truck near Northgate early Saturday. The College Station Police and Fire Departments were on the scene of a wreck on Wellborn near University just after 2:30am Saturday morning. The fire truck was blocking a lane of traffic to allow responders to safely work the scene. 21-year-old Kylee Cheyenne Davis, of Midland, then drove her pickup into the fire truck on scene. No one was injured, but the impact was enough to cause significant damage to the fire truck’s diamond plate bumper. Reports say Davis was unable to stop swaying and failed a field sobriety test. She reportedly admitted to drinking 3 to 4 shots and 2 to 3 beers. She refused a voluntary blood sample, but a warrant obtained and a sample was taken at St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan. Davis was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. She remains jailed on $5,000 bond. College Station Police made a major drug seizure during a traffic stop Saturday. Officers made a traffic stop in the 500 block of University Drive East just before 1:30am Saturday morning. They say the driver was very nervous, and after dispatch confirmed previous arrests for distributable amounts of narcotics, they asked for consent to search his vehicle. 27-year-old Bryan Axel Carbajal Roman, of Bryan, denied their request, so a K-9 was brought in that alerted from outside the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was then executed.   Roman was found to be in possession of: THC WAX: 78 grams THC Vape Cartridges (more than 150 cartridges): 892 grams LSD: 928 Arbitrary Units (AU) MDMA: 54.2 grams PSILOSYBIN (Mushrooms): 216.5 grams Alprazolam/Xanax (more than 500 pills): 337.1 grams Methamphetamines/Adderall: 1,348.9 grams Cocaine: 4.5 grams Methamphetamines: 7 grams Marijuana: 4.121 pounds THC Gummies: 206.9 grams The man was carrying $5,842 in cash and had a large quantity of miscellaneous drug paraphernalia including vacuum sealable bags, a vacuum sealer, a digital narcotics scale (coated with the presence of illegal narcotics of multiple drug penalty groups to include the listed above narcotics recovered in his possession), empty glass bottles, and plastic baggies. Roman was charged with 7 counts of Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, 3 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and 1 count of Possession of Marijuana: Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 1A, >= 80<4,000 AU (LSD) Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 1, >=400 grams (Adderall) Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 2 OR 2A, 4-400 grams (MDMA) Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 2 OR 2A, >= 400 grams (THC vape) Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 2 OR 2A, 4-400 grams (mushrooms) Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 2 OR 2A, 4-400 grams (THC wax) Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 3/4, >=200<400 grams (Xanax) Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1/1B, 4-200 grams (cocaine) Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1, 4-200 grams (methamphetamine) Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 2, 4-400 grams (THC gummies) Possession of Marijuana 4oz – 5 pounds His bond has been set at $640,000, but he is also being held on an ICE Detainer. On February 10, 2023, Roman was booked into the Brazos County Jail by Texas A&M University Police and was charged with the following: Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 1, 4-200 grams (Case Refused/Rejected) Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 2 OR 2A, 4-400 grams (Transferred To TDC) Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 2 OR 2A, 4-400 grams (Case Refused/Rejected) Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 2, less than one gram (Case Refused/Rejected) Possession of Marijuana 4oz – 5lbs (Prosecution Barred 12.45) He was also placed on an ICE Detainer during that arrest.
