Gingrich Talks Religion, Not Politics, in Houston

HOUSTON (AP) _ Religion, not talk of presidential aspirations, was former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s theme during an appearance in Houston.

Gingrich and his wife, Callista, attended a Wednesday evening viewing of a documentary he co-produced on Pope John Paul II’s role in defeating communism.

The documentary, “Nine Days that Changed the World,” was released last year. Gingrich, a former Baptist, converted to Roman Catholicism in 2009.

The 67-year-old Republican didn’t mention during the two-hour event plans to run for president. However, Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler told The Associated Press Wednesday in Atlanta that Gingrich will begin raising money to test the feasibility of a presidential run

The former Georgia congressman is to appear at a news conference in Atlanta on Thursday.
