Gang Members Arrested in Statewide Sweep

HOUSTON (AP) _ U.S. immigration officials say more than 100 street gang members have been arrested during days-long sweeps throughout Texas.

Officials said Tuesday that federal, state and local officers made the arrests as part of a national initiative targeting transnational gangs.

The Houston, Beaumont and Corpus Christi areas accounted for 80 of the arrests. Another 52 suspected gang members and 14 of their associates were arrested in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The sweeps also nabbed 36 suspected immigration status violators in southern Texas and 37 in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Officials say the suspects have ties to at least 14 groups, including Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), Surenos Trece, Aryan Brotherhood, Latin Kings, La Raza13, Black Disciples, Houstone, Tango Blast, Bloods and Crips.
