Games of Texas Coming to Bryan/College Station

GamesOfTexas14-15The first weekend of August the next two years will feel like there’s an Aggie home football game.

Bryan city councilwoman Ann Horton announced Tuesday night the twin cities are hosting the Games of Texas.

Horton says there will be 9,000 athletes from the age of seven through adults.

She says the total crowd for the four day competition is estimated at 30,000.

According to the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, which sponsors the games, competition will be held in the following sports: Archery, Baseball, Bowling, Boxing, Disc Golf, Golf, Kickball, Lifeguard Training Competition, Skateboard, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, and Track & Field.

The opening ceremony is the evening of August 1 at Olsen Field. Traditional venues will be used, including Veterans Park, Central Park, Brian Bachmann Community Park, the Bryan Regional Athletic Complex, and A&M’s golf course, Penberthy complex and Mitchell Tennis Center.

Other sites include the Hilton for boxing and Research Park for disc golf.
