Friday Afternoon Crash Closes Hwy 21 in East Bryan

Highway 21 in east Bryan near Coulter Field airport was closed for several hours Friday from the afternoon into the evening due to a four vehicle crash.

Police report seven people were injured. All were taken to local hospitals and listed in stable condition with non-life threatening to substantial to serious injuries.

Investigators determined a car attempting to make a left turn from Marino Road to Highway 21 failed to yield the right of way and was struck by pickup. Another car and truck on 21 were involved after the initial collision.

On April 3, 2015 at 4:40pm Officers responded to the 5700 block of E State Hwy 21 for a major accident. The following vehicles were involved:

White Cadillac #1 – 1 occupant 82 year old male suffered serious injuries.

Black Chevy Truck – 3 occupants
Driver – 18 year old female suffered substantial injuries
Passenger – 13 year old female suffered substantial injuries
Passenger – 17 year old male suffered substantial injuries

White Cadillac #2 – 2 occupants
Driver – 52 year old male suffered substantial injuries
Passenger – 69 year old female suffered substantial injuries.

Grey Chevy Truck – 1 occupant 55 year old female had non incapacitating injuries.

All parties involved were listed in stable condition at local hospitals.

Series of events:
Cadillac #1 was on Marino Rd attempting to make a left turn. The black truck was traveling westbound on SH 21. The black Chevy truck veered into oncoming traffic in an attempt to avoid a collision. The Black truck struck the front of Cadillac #1 causing both vehicles to spin in the opposite direction they were travelling. The black truck went into the eastbound lanes. Cadillac #2 was in the inside lane and the grey Chevy truck was in the outside lane traveling eastbound. Both vehicles veered to the outside. The grey truck drove off the roadway and into a steep embankment. Cadillac #2 struck the black truck.

The driver of Cadillac #1 was cited for fail to yield right of way at a stop sign.
