Free Speech Organization Says Blinn College Settles Free Speech Lawsuit Filed By Brenham Student

A Blinn College Brenham campus student who filed a federal lawsuit last year has reached an out of court settlement.

Blinn admits no wrongdoing and still disputes the student’s claims.

But the settlement…described as a compromise…calls for Nicole Sanders receiving $50,000 dollars and Blinn changing policies on what the college calls “student expressive activities on campus”.

According to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, which assisted Sanders, the lawsuit was filed after an incident on the Brenham campus where she was told she would need “special permission” to display a gun rights sign and collect signatures to form a student group.

In addition to updating student policies, Blinn administrators are required to provide training to campus police and other affected employees in the next four months.

The money going to Sanders, according to administrators, will be funded largely by Blinn’s insurance company.
