Free Disaster Training Course

This weekend, TEEX is offering a free course to provide training for community members on how to handle the immediate aftermath of a natural catastrophe, technological accident, or human-caused incident.

Author and instructor of the Search and Rescue in Community Disasters course, Susann Brown said the course is intended for members of the whole community.

“How do you save yourself, your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, and then how do you tied into the rescue system that is coming in to make sure that they know that you have been taken care of,” said Brown.

The course begins with understanding the risk you have at home or work, how to prepare for a disaster, and then includes hands-on training.

“Assuming that something bad happens at your house and your house is essentially falling down around you, how do you protect yourself? Where is your safe room and how do you select that room and then how do you get yourself out of there?” said Brown.
