Monday marks two years since a pickup went out of control on Traditions Drive in Bryan, killing one of three passengers and injuring the driver and two other passengers.
The driver and the Brazos County district attorney’s office have reached a plea agreement on drunk driving charges that was accepted by the judge on the eve of a jury trial.
Michael Krause of College Station was 18 years old when his pickup…estimated to be going 80 miles per hour…skidded off Traditions Drive near Harvey Mitchell Parkway and flipped an unknown number of times before coming to rest against the edge of a creek.
According to the Bryan police arrest report, Krause’s blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit at .145.
Krause, who pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury, was sentenced to four years in prison.
According to online court records, there was no restitution or fine.
The arrest report stated the passenger who died was sitting behind the driver.
The second backseat passenger, who got out of the truck through the back window and went to the street to get help, sustained a broken pelvis, two broken vertebrae, and collapsed lungs.
While she was in the hospital, the arrest report said she went to Krause’s room, where he apologized for what he did.
Injuries to the third passenger, who was seated next to the driver, included a broken pelvis and bruised lungs.
And Krause’s injuries included fractures to his breastbone and shoulder blade.
