Fort Hood Continues Mission Prep

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) _ Even as Fort Hood mourns the victims from a shooting spree, the country’s largest military installation is moving forward with its usual business of soldiering.

Col. John Rossi said on Sunday that Fort Hood is “continuing to prepare for the mission at hand.”

The processing center where Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opened fire on Thursday remains a crime scene. But the activities that went on there were relocated, with the goal of reopening the center as soon as Sunday.

Rossi says there’s still cannon fire and artillery fire.

But the specter of the shooting that killed 13 dead and wounded dozens of others lingers on the post. Rossi acknowledged that psychic wounds could be deep.
