FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) _ A meeting has been postponed between Fort Hood’s commanding general and attorneys for the Army psychiatrist charged in the mass shooting on the Central Texas military post.
Maj. Nidal Hasan’s lead attorney, John Galligan, says he wants more time before meeting with the commander who will decide whether his client is court-martialed and faces the death penalty.
Galligan said Tuesday that the defense team will meet with Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell the week of May 16 instead of later this week.
Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the November 2009 shootings.
Two Army colonels have recommended that Hasan be court-martialed and face the death penalty. Campbell will decide how the case proceeds sometime after meeting with Hasan’s attorneys.
