Former Texas A&M Hoops Coach Billy Gillispie Recovering from Kidney Transplant

Former Texas A&M Men’s Baskeball coach Billy Gillispie is in recovery following a successful kidney transplant.

Gillispie, who coached the Aggies from 2004-2007, was diagnosed with kidney disease in December. The 58-year-old was destined to begin dialysis when Ericka Downey volunteered to donate one of her kidneys.

Downey is the wife of Mark Downey, the head men’s basketball coach at Division II Northwestern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

The procedure took place Tuesday afternoon at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
